India China Pharmaceutical Sector Business Seminar was held in Taizhou, Jiangsu on 15 December 2010

An India China Pharmaceutical Sector Business Seminar was organized by the Consulate General of India (CGI) in association with Taizhou Municipal Foreign Affairs Office (FAO) and Taizhou Medical New & Hi-Tech District at Taizhou (Jiangsu Province) on 15 December 2010.

Consul General Mrs. Riva Ganguly Das led a high level delegation of Indian pharmaceutical companies & banks from the Eastern China Region to Taizhou, Jiangsu. Chief Representatives, CEOs & senior executives of Aurobindo Pharma Limited, Lupin Limited, Piramal Healthcare Limited, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Limited, Shanghai Desano Holding Co. & Shanghai Biomabs of CIPLA Group, State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank & Union Bank of India were part of the delegation. This was the second visit of Indian pharmaceutical companies to Taizhou. 

Conveying a signal of unequivocal support, the delegation was warmly received & hosted by Mr. Xu Guoping, Mayor of Taizhou.  He conveyed the strong interest of the Taizhou Municipal People’s Government in deepening cooperation in pharmaceutical sector with India.   Consul General expressed the hope that the Seminar will result in greater business links between Indian pharmaceutical companies & financial institutions and Taizhou based Chinese companies.

 In his opening address, Mayor of Taizhou Mr. Xu Guoping, said that the joint initiative offered a unique opportunity to Taizhou to engage India even more closely and assured Indian companies of the Municipal Government’s unstinted support. Consul General Mrs. Riva Ganguly Das said that trade and business continues to be one of the major driving forces of India-China bilateral relations and the pharmaceutical sector has been identified as one of the focus areas of cooperation. She said that given India’s strength in the pharmaceutical sector, India can provide a number of high quality products to the Chinese market at competitive price. Indian companies made presentations introducing their business operations in India, China and abroad; Indian pharmaceutical sector and opportunities for Chinese companies to invest in India; strengths of Indian pharmaceutical companies in China and areas of proposed cooperation in China. State Bank of India made presentation on Indian banks present in China and their role in furthering the business relationship between Indian & Chinese pharmaceutical companies.

 
The Seminar in progress

Taizhou has been at the forefront of Jiangsu’s economic development. Taizhou Medical New and Hi-Tech District has emerged as one of China’s largest one stop dedicated multi facility pharmaceutical industry park and has virtually made Taizhou a global pharma hub.

The exercise was aimed at providing Indian and Chinese entrepreneurs with a platform to forge new business alliances as well as promote two-way investments. More than 15 Taizhou based companies besides government officials and media representatives participated in the Seminar. One-on-one meetings between Indian and Taizhou based companies were arranged. The delegation also visited the Taizhou Medical New & Hi-Tech District. Several business leads emerged during the event.
