India Tourism Road Show in Nanjing

 

An India Tourism Road Show was organized in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, PR China on March 4, 2011. The event was jointly organized by India Tourism Office, Beijing and Shanghai Business International Travel Service Co. Ltd (SBIT). On behalf of Consul General of India in Shanghai, Consul (Information & Culture) attended the road show. More than 60 tour operators from Nanjing and nearby cities including Suzhou and Wuxi attended the event which was held at the Sofitel Hotel, Nanjing. In his opening speech, Director, India Tourism Office in Beijing, Mr. Shoeb Samad said that the event in Nanjing is being organized for the first time, as part of the strategy under the new action plan to target tier II cities in China to promote tourism to India. He said there is a need to tap the enormous potential in these cities and show our presence. He thanked the travel agents for promoting India and assured them of all possible help. He invited the tour operators for a FAM tour of India. SBIT made a detailed power point presentation on popular tour itineraries of India including Golden Triangle tour, comprising of places of major tourist centers like Delhi, Agra & Jaipur, the Buddhist pilgrimage sites and other places of tourist interests. Ms. Chandni Mittal, Manager, VFS Global, the Indian Visa Application centre in Shanghai gave a presentation on the different types of visas that can be obtained for India, visa procedures and the check list for applying for various categories of visas, which received good response. Jet Airways made a presentation on their services in China. The travel agents appreciated the initiative taken by the India Tourism office and said they received very good information about India through the event. Indian Bollywood dance performances by four local Chinese artistes were a major attraction. A quiz competition on places of tourist interest of India was conducted during the event. Representatives from local travel media as well as Nanjing TV attended and covered the event. Door gifts including lot of publicity material were distributed among travel agents. Moghul paintings were given away as lucky draw prizes including two return air tickets sponsored by Jet Airways on Hong Kong-India sector. A lavish spread of Chinese and Indian dinner was served to the guests. The event received good response. Question & Answers session during Nanjing Tourism Road Show.
