Consulate General of India, Shanghai organized "An evening of Classical Music" on November 22, 2013 with a lecture-demonstration by an eminent Indian vocalist, performing in the Carnatic music tradition Dr Vasumathi Badrinathan. The event was well attended by members of Indian community and Consular Corps. A large number of Chinese also turned up to listen to the intricacies of the Carnatic Music. Coming from a family with rich musical background, Dr Badrinathan combines a fine blend of tradition and creativity in her singing style. Dr Badrinathan has taken part in various national and international festivals in Europe, Asia Pacific & African countries. Dr Badrinathan also collaborates with jazz musicians from different parts of the globe. She was, in fact, the first Indian musician to take Carnatic Music to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
