Celebration of the birth anniversary of Sardar  Vallabhbhai  Patel 

(Rashtriya   Ekta   Diwas)

          The Consulate General of India in Shanghai celebrated the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on 31^st October 2023, in the conference hall of the Consulate.  The day is marked as the National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas in commemoration of the stellar role of Sardar Patel in uniting India after independence.

          Addressing the gathering, the Consul General Dr. N. Nandakumar spoke about the contributions of  Sardar Patel when  India was facing multiple threats of disintegration at the time of its Independence. Consul General also highlighted that Sardar Patel believed that the political unity should accommodate and respect the widest possible diversity true to the ethos of Indian culture. 

          On the occasion, a virtual talk on the life and works of Sardar Patel by Dr. Shobhana Radhakrishna, a renowned Gandhian and historian was screened.  Inspired by Sardar Patel’s vision of National Unity, a small exhibition on the theme ‘Unity in Diversity’ was specially curated, to celebrate the occasion.  In the exhibition, paintings of Shri Goutam Sen, an Indian artist in Shanghai were displayed.  Apart from the talk and the painting exhibition, a presentation on the Statue of Unity, the tallest statue in the World was also organised.  Sh Aditya Prabhudesai, Consul (PIC), made the presentation.  Indian Community members based in Shanghai and Indian students studying in different universities in Shanghai participated in the event.
