Consulate General of India along with Indian Association jointly organized a commemorative event celebrating 142^nd Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the Indian Consulate Cultural Hall.  It may be noted that 31^st October is commemorated as the ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ (National Unity Day) in India, and the event at Indian Consulate was organized to commemorate the same. 

2.Floral tributes were paid to portrait of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and Acting Consul General Sh. Naveen Kumar delivered a keynote address, highlighting the pivotal role played by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in the independence movement of India; and in ensuring unification of India immediately after independence. A pledge for national unity was also conducted, in which all members of Indian community participated.  

3.Subsequently, a documentary film on Sardar Patel was also screened, so as to make the younger generation aware about the life and deeds of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and his contribution towards national building.

4.Additionally, a show of ethnic costumes of India themed ‘Unity in Diversity’ was also organized at the Consulate. The show was aimed at exhibiting diversity of India, reflected in its costumes and other unique features. As part of the celebration, 15 participants (under age of 14 years) showcased the specific costume of a different states/region of India, and spoke about the state/region emphasizing the unique culture and heritage, which was warmly received by the audience. The participants were given special prizes and the event was followed by light Indian refreshments.
