Hindi Diwas Celebrated in Shanghai with participation of Chinese and Indian students

Consulate General of India, Shanghai celebrated 'Hindi Diwas' on September 14, 2017 at the Consulate premises, in which a ​large ​number of Indian community members including school children participated. ​ 

2.The highlight of the event was participation of several Chinese students who are learning Hindi at Shanghai International ​Studies ​University (SISU), with support of  the ICCR Hindi Chair and other Hindi faculty of the university. One of the Chinese faculty from Hindi Department, ​Ms. Yutong Zhang ​of SISU (a fluent Hindi speaker) was the Guest of Honor,​ as well as Judge in the panel to evaluate the performance of various contestants. 

​3.Several activities including speech, singing, and poetry recitation etc were conducted as part of the 'Hindi Diwas' celebration​s​. Interestingly, the participants included, not only children but a large number of adults from the Indian Diaspora, who recited their original poems in Hindi. 

4.Consul General Prakash Gupta while inaugurating the ​celebrations​ welcomed the enthusiasm shown by participants and called on every one to make efforts to bring Hindi in ​usage in daily life as much as possible. He underscored that this was particularly important for Indian children studying abroad, who invariably found themselves in non-Hindi speaking environments.​ 

​5.CGI Shanghai presented ​the best performing students with cash prize as well as gifts. ​ The event was followed by light Indian snacks ​for all the participants.
