Indian Film Festival Inaugurated at the Hangzhou Public Library, Hangzhou

Consulate General of India in Shanghai along with Hangzhou Municipal People’s Government jointly organized an Indian Film Festival at the prestigious Hangzhou Library in Hangzhou in the evening of June 16.

  1. The Indian Film Festival was organized as part of the India Week celebrations, and jointly inaugurated by Consul General Prakash Gupta along with Kong Desheng, Dy Director General Hangzhou FAO and Chu Shuqing, Director General Hangzhou Public Library. 
  1. Given the tremendous interest generated by Indian films amongst Chinese audiences, the week-long Indian Film Festival will showcase thirteen of India’s most successful recent movies – “Three Idiots” “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” “Taare Zameen Par” “Queen”“English Vinglish” “Mary Kom” “Ek Villain” “Tanu weds Manu” “Manjhi” “Kahaani” “Jolly LLB” “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo”– – all with Chinese subtitles/sound-  and would be available for viewing as part of the Indian Film Festival at the grand theatre of Hangzhou Library. The opening screening showcased ‘PK’ to a packed audience of nearly 300 people.

The India Culture Week comprises of India-China (Hangzhou) Business and Investment Forum; the Photo Exhibition of Buddhist Images; Gupta Art Exhibition at Zhejiang Provincial Museum, Calligraphic Rendition of Chinese translation of Indian Scripture “Bhagavad Gita” at Zhejiang Provincial Museum; another film festival at Zhejiang Provincial Museum, a Painting Exhibition by Chinese artists from Hangzhou Kaiming Art Gallery, who recently visited India on a familiarization trip organized by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), and have subsequently drawn their impressions of India titled “Journey to India”; and a Food Festival.
  1. All in all, the Festival endeavours to bring unique flavor of India to the people of Hangzhou, through an interactive and immersive experience of various facets of Indian art forms, and is expected to bring a deeper understanding of India to the art-loving people of Hangzhou.
