Photo Exhibition 'Buddhist Heritage of India' inaugurated at Zhejiang Hotel, Hangzhou

Consulate General of India in Shanghai in association with CICO jointly organized a photo Exhibition titled - 'Buddhist Heritage of India' at Zhejiang Hotel, Hangzhou in the afternoon of June 16. The exhibit was organized as part of the India Week celebrations, and jointly inaugurated by Consul General Prakash Gupta along with Zhejinag CICO Chairman Yu Zhi Hong.

  1. The exhibition comprises of more than ninety photographs of various prominent Buddhist sites/monasteries from across India. The exhibition offers a glimpse of Buddhism in its birth place – India. The exhibition portrays the life of Buddha, his journey to enlightenment, and spread of Buddhism as religion, philosophy and way of life. The set of pictures were sent by the External Publicity Division of the Ministry of External Affairs of Government of India, and put together by ace photographer Binoy K Behl. A large number of art lovers from Hangzhou turned up to view the exhibition.

The India Culture Week comprises of India-China (Hangzhou) Business and Investment Forum; the Photo Exhibition of Buddhist Images; Gupta Art Exhibition at Zhejiang Provincial Museum, Calligraphic Rendition of Chinese translation of Indian Scripture “Bhagavad Gita” at Zhejiang Museum; a film festival at Zhejiang Provincial Museum, a Painting Exhibition by Chinese artists from Hangzhou Kaiming Art Gallery, who recently visited India on a familiarization trip organized by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), and have subsequently drawn their impressions of India titled “Journey to India”; a Food Festival, and another Film Festival at Hangzhou Public Library.
  1. All in all, the Festival endeavours to bring unique flavor of India to the people of Hangzhou, through an interactive and immersive experience of various facets of Indian art forms, and is expected to bring a deeper understanding of India to the art-loving people of Hangzhou.
