Consul General of India in Shanghai, Mr. Prakash Gupta paid an official visit to Xuzhou (Jiangsu) on May 22-23, 2017 and interacted with Mr. Xu Donghai, Vice Mayor of Xuzhou Municipal People’s Government to discuss ways and means to further deepen economic and cultural cooperation between India and Xuzhou.

2.   During the meeting with Vice Mayor Xu Donghai, Consul General shared details of investment opportunities available to companies from Xuzhou in India, as part of the Make in India initiative, and requested Vice Mayor to lead an investors’ delegation to visit India in the second half of 2017. It was also discussed to organize an India Investment Promotion Forum along with an India Culture Week in July 2017.

During the visit to Xuzhou, Consul General also visited Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group (XCMG) premises and delivered a lecture on “Understanding India’s Business Environment” was organized at the premises of XCMG on the forenoon of 23 May 2017. The session was attended by nearly 150 senior and mid- level employees of the XCMG Group, which has recently purchased land to set up a manufacturing unit in India near Chennai. Consul General Prakash Gupta delivered the key note address and provided an overall perspective of the investment environment in India, especially the nuances of business culture that XCMG’s team needed to keep in perspective, while engaging with Indian business counterparts 

4. In addition, Consul General visited the Huaihai Holding Group - which produces battery powered electronic cars – with the latest technology – and encouraged them to look at participating in ongoing smart city projects in India.
