Consul General of India in Shanghai, Mr. Prakash Gupta paid an official visit to Yancheng (Jiangsu) on May 17, 2017 and interacted with Mr. Dai Yuan, Mayor of Yancheng Municipal People’s Government to discuss ways and means to further deepen economic and cultural cooperation between India and Yancheng.

2.  During the meeting with Mayor Dai Yuan, Consul General shared details of investment opportunities available to companies from Yancheng in India, as part of the Make in India initiative, and requested Yancheng city leadership to lead an investors’ delegation to visit India in the first half of 2018. It was also discussed to organize an India Investment Promotion Forum along with an India Culture Week in the first half of 2018. 

3. Given Yancheng city’s core strengths in automobiles, textiles and solar sector, Consul General encouraged Yancheng city leadership to focus on promoting investments into India in these sectors and shared a detailed list of investment opportunities available in India in the same.

4. Earlier in the day, Consul General visited Jiangsu Yueda Textile Group – Yancheng’s largest textile company – and extended their leadership an invitation to attend the upcoming TEXTILE INDIA Summit in Gandhinagar in Gujarat in end June.  In addition, Consul General also visited Jiangsu Aoxin New Energy Automobile Company, which produces battery powered electronic cars – with the latest technology – and encouraged them to look at participating in ongoing smart city projects in India.  Consul General also interacted with the leadership of TRINA Solar in Yancheng, who have already invested in a manufacturing unit for solar panels in India.

5. Consul General also visited the manufacturing plant of a leading Indian company – operating through a Joint Venture (JV) – Mahindra Yueda – in Yancheng – which has been producing tractors for the Chinese market since 2009. The top management of Mahindra Yueda briefed Consul General on the present concerns facing the tractor manufacturing industry in China.

6. It may be noted that Yancheng is one of the Eastern China’s leading economic prefecture level city, with core strengths in textiles, automobiles and new energy sectors. One of India’s larger investments through Mahindra is hosted in Yancheng since 2008-09.
