Official Visit of Consul General to Haimen (Jiangsu) – MoU signed by Indian Sterlite company to expand its manufacturing unit’s optical fibre production capacity in Haimen (18 April 2017)

     Consul General Prakash Gupta paid an official visit to Haimen (Jiangsu) on April 18, 2017 and interacted with Mr. Chen Yong, Party Secretary of Haimen city and Mr. Yang Caoming, Mayor of Haimen city Government to discuss ways and means to further deepen economic and cultural cooperation between India and Haimen.  

2.   During the meeting with Party Secretary Chen Yong, Consul General shared details of investment opportunities available to companies from Haimen in India, as part of the Make in India initiative, and requested Haimen city leadership to lead an investors’ delegation to visit India in the first half of 2018. 

3.  It may be noted that Haimen city hosts one of India’s most successful joint venture projects in Eastern China between an Indian company, Sterlite and its Chinese partner, Tongguang, with the Indian company stake being at 70 percent. As such, Sterlite Tech Unit in Haimen, is one of India’s significant investments into the city. The manufacturing facility produces optical fibres with an annual volume of nearly 7 million kms and caters to the fast growing requirement of optical fibres in the Chinese market. 

4.  During the visit to Haimen, Consul General also visited the manufacturing unit of Sterlite Tech, and interacted with its leadership and discussed their expansion plans in Eastern China region. An MoU to further expand the JV project operations of Sterlite Tech was also signed between Mr. Ajay Razdan, VP, International Business Operations of Sterlite Tech and Mr. Shen Xu, Secretary of CPC Committee of Haimen Tech Zone, in the presence of Consul General and Haimen city leadership. 

5.  Haimen city leadership also welcomed proposals to organize Indian cultural performances along with a large scale 3^rdInternational Day of Yoga Event in Haimen later during the year. Separately, Consul General also visited the Kaishen Group, a leading manufacturer of home textile products in Haimen and extended an invitation to the Chairman of the Kaishen Group to participate in the upcoming Textile India 2017 Summit to be held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat in end June 2017.
