'Make in India' Road show in Shanghai

 

Mr. Amitabh Kant, Secretary Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Government of India, invited Chinese companies to take advantage of the new and exciting opportunities for investment in India this morning at a Make In India roadshow organised by Consulate General of India in partnership with China Council for Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Shanghai. The roadshow saw participation by more than 170 business executives from leading Chinese companies from the East China Region covering a wide range of sectors.

2. Mr. Kant highlighted the unique advantages offered by India for manufacturing companies including a vast pool of skilled manpower, low labour costs and the new policies and initiatives taken by Government of India to expand manufacturing under 'Make-in-India' as well as promote ease of doing business and facilitate investors.

3. Details were provided of policies and specific opportunities in 25 sectors such as power sector, auto and auto parts, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, infrastructure etc.

4. Presentations were also made by Chinese companies including Shanghai Urban Construction Group (SUCG) which has been involved in several infrastructure projects in India and Wanfeng Auto which has invested in an auto wheel making plant in Haryana. These companies highlighted the support they had received from government and authorities in India and encouraged other Chinese companies to seize the opportunity.

5. Secretary Kant also interacted separately with several large infrastructure and renewable energy companies. Consul General conveyed that several major Chinese companies especially those in renewable energy sector were in the process of expanding their operations/investments in India.
