Indian Modern Art Exhibition

 

Consul General Mr. Naveen Srivastava, Mr. Shi Dawei, Director, China Art Museum and Prof. Rajeev Lochan, Director, National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi jointly inaugurated the Indian Modern Art Exhibition "The Eye and The Mind: New Interventions in Indian Art" on April 10, 2015 at China Art Museum, Shanghai. The exhibition which has been brought to Shanghai under the Glimpses of India Festival is supported by India's Ministry of Culture and Consulate General of India, Shanghai.

The exhibition showcases works from the permanent collection of National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi as well as by well-known Indian artists such as Anju Dodiya, Arunkumar HG, Atul Bhalla, Baiju Parthan, Bharti Kher and others. This exhibition presents thought-provoking and cutting–edge creations of art by well-known artists from India who emerged in the 1980s and 1990s and their art form portrays the reality experienced by them leading to rich creative expressions. The exhibition comprises a diversified multitude of media such as installation art, video art, performance art & conceptual art. The exhibition also provides an insight into the cultural diversity of India as well as present new approaches and genres in art previously not experienced. This exhibition presents the art of the "New Generation".

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives/artists of various Museums and Galleries in Shanghai and also members of diplomatic community present in Shanghai.

The exhibition would remain open for public viewing from April 11- July 2, 2015.
