1.      Consulate General of India, Shanghai along with Government of Gujarat jointly organized a large scale business event to promote the upcoming “Vibrant Gujarat Investors Summit” in Shanghai earlier today. The business event was attended by nearly 70 leading Chinese companies from the Eastern China region, who had expressed strong interest in investing in India.

2.       Mr. Sanjay Prasad, Principal Secretary, Gujarat Government delivered the key-note address and highlighted the longstanding cooperation that existed between Government of Gujarat and Chinese companies, in particular from the Eastern China region. He welcomed participants to attend the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Investors Summit (to be held in Gandhinagar from 10-13 January 2017) and made a detailed presentation on the investment opportunities available in Gujarat to Chinese investors. Consul General Prakash Gupta gave an overall perspective of the investment climate in India and encouraged Chinese companies to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the Make in India initiative. He assured all Chinese companies that Consulate would be willing to facilitate their investment plans for India in full earnest. Upon the conclusion of the event, B2B meetings were also held between members of the business delegation from Gujarat and counterpart Chinese companies.

3.   It may be noted that Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) is in an advance stage of negotiations to set up an auto assembly unit, which is likely to be located in Gujarat. Chengde Group (from Yangzhou) has also submitted a project proposal to set up a CNG tank assembling unit in Baroda. In addition, Zhenhua Port Machinery Corporation (ZPMC) is also planning to put up an assembly unit for crane parts at a suitable location in Gujarat. As such, significant business leads came through the Business Seminar that was held in Shanghai at the Renaissance Yangtze Hotel earlier today.

4.     It may be noted that over the years, Vibrant Gujarat Investors Summit has provided an important platform to potential Chinese investors to explore investment opportunities in Gujarat and scale up their operations in India. Several companies from Eastern China region including The Highly Group of Shanghai, YAPP Group amongst others already have ongoing operations in Gujarat. The 8th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat is expected to witness participation from a large number of leading companies from Eastern China.
