Presentations of Chinese translations of Patanjali Yogasutras/Upnishads and Oil Portrait by Hangzhou Academia/Artists to Hon'ble Prime Minister of India

 

During the visit of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India to Hangzhou for attending the G20 Summit, two separate presentations were made by local Hangzhou academia and artist in honour of the visiting dignitary on 4th September 2016.

2. The first presentation was made by Prof. Wang Zhicheng, Director of Institute of Religious Studies of Zhejiang University, who is an Indophile and founder of the Institute for China Yoga Culture Center in Zhejiang. Prof. Wang carried out Chinese translations of ancient Indian texts, which included the entire set of Yogasutras of Patanjali, Narada’s Bhaktisutras, Bhagwadgita, Yoga Vasistha, essays of Swami Vivekananda and several other important Yogic and ancient Indian Vedic texts. Brief profile along with a list of publications translated by Prof. Wang Zhicheng is enclosed at Annexure-I. These were presented by Prof. Wang to Hon’ble Prime Minister of India earlier today. Hon’ble Prime Minister was extremely happy to receive the set of 10 Chinese translations and wished Prof. Wang Zhicheng all success in his future endeavours.

3. The second presentation was made by Prof. Shen Shu of Zhejiang Kaiming Art Gallery, who had spent nearly four months (since February 2016) drawing an oil-portrait of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. The Zhejiang Kaiming Art Gallery has had a long association with India and has organized an exhibition of Indian paintings in Hangzhou in 2008 titled “Visit India” and another in 2011 on Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. It had been a long standing desire of Zhejiang Kaiming Art Gallery to make this oil-portrait presentation to Hon’ble Prime Minister of India.

5. Consulate General of India in Shanghai, along with Hangzhou Municipal People’s Government would soon be presenting these two eminent artists and scholars in Hangzhou the title of “Friend of India in China” to mark their strong association and friendship with India.
