1. Consulate General of India in Shanghai and Wenzhou Municipal People’s Government are jointly organizing an India China (Wenzhou) Business and Investment Forum and the India Culture Week celebrations in Wenzhou (Zhejiang). CGI Shanghai’s template of cooperation with Wenzhou is a unique initiative bringing together economic, commercial and cultural aspects and intends to transport a truly Indian experience into Wenzhou in the week beginning 17th June 2016.
2. The city of Wenzhou in Zhejiang province has been a key business partner for India in the Eastern China Region (ECR), and Wenzhou has been an entrepreneurial and private sector hub, having pioneered the legendary “Wenzhou Model of growth” and therefore has assumed an important dimension in the investments going into India, as part of the Make in India initiative. There is also considerable interest amongst the Wenzhou people in knowing about Indian culture, films and art forms and given this context, Wenzhou has been selected as the first city in Zhejiang Province for launching the India Culture Week.
3. Wenzhou leadership is expected to receive the Indian delegation led by Consul General who will be accompanied by CEOs of leading Indian companies who would be participating in the Business and Investment Forum, which will be held on 17th June in Wenzhou, where Indian companies would be introducing the latest investment opportunities in India in sectors like Renewable Energies, Solar Panels, Roads, Smart Cities, Infrastructure Development, Urban Transportation and Power Sector, which are now available to Chinese companies under the Make in India programme. A series of B2B meetings have also been planned for participating Indian companies with their Chinese counterparts.
4. It may also be emphasized that Wenzhou will be the first city in ECR to host the launch of the 2nd International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebrations by organizing a special Yoga event with participation of 1000 Yoga lovers from Wenzhou at the prestigious Century Square. An Indian Yoga Centre dedicated to promotion of Yoga practices is also expected to be launched near the scenic and famous foothills of the Yandang Mountains in Wenzhou.
5. In addition, an Indian Food Festival, showcasing the best Indian culinary experience, will also be hosted for a week at the Shangri La Hotel which will be jointly inaugurated by Consul General and Wenzhou Leadership on 17th June evening. Art lovers from Wenzhou would also get to view an exhibition of Indian paintings (drawn by Chinese veteran artist Wang Zhijie) title “India through Chinese Eyes”, which will be on display till 25th June at the prestigious Wenzhou Library.
6. Given the tremendous interest generated by Indian films amongst Chinese audiences, a week-long Indian Film Festival featuring five of India’s most successful recent movies – (“PK” “Three Idiots” “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” “Taare Zameen Par” “Queen” – all in Chinese) would also be available for viewing as part of the Indian Film Festival at prominent public venues in Wenzhou city. Separately, a Forum on India China Tea Drinking Culture would also be organized on 20th June, with participation from tea companies from India and Wenzhou.
7. All in all, a truly Indian experience is being transported into Wenzhou, in the week beginning 17th June. We hope that the Business and Investment Forum coupled with the series of cultural events will foster a better understanding of Indian arts and culture in the minds of Wenzhou people and further promote bilateral investments between India and the Eastern China region.
