Official visit of Consul General to Suqian (Jiangsu) and Huai'an (Jiangsu) from 30 May

 

1. Consul General paid an official visit to Suqian (located in Jiangsu Province) from 30-31 May and called on Party Secretary of Suqian CPC H.E. Mr. Wei Guo Qiang.

2. During the meeting with Party Secretary of Suqian, Consul General proposed an annual plan of cooperation with the city of Suqian which covered economic, political and cultural exchanges.  Consul General requested Suqian Party Secretary to encourage companies from Suqian to take advantage of the Make in India campaign and set up manufacturing units at suitable industrial parks in India.

3. It may be noted that Jingke Group (located in Suqian, producing switchgears and power sector equipment), also has a joint venture partnership with an Indian counterpart under which they have established a facility in Baroda in Gujarat. Chairman of Jingke Group Mr. Wang Jian Liang (who also attended the meeting with Party Secretary) evinced strong interest in expanding their India operations on an even larger scale at an industrial park in Gujarat.

4. It was also discussed to consider establishing Sister-City relations between Suqian and Baroda district.  Separately a proposal to organize an India Culture Week along with Business Symposium at a mutually convenient time early next year was also discussed and warmly welcomed by Party Secretary of Suqian. Separately Consul General also visited the premises of Jingke Group, wherein Chairman Wang Jian Liang gave a detailed briefing on their India operation and plans as such.

5. Upon conclusion of the visit to Suqian, Consul General also paid an official visit to Huai’an (located in Jiangsu Province) on 1st June and called on Mayor of Huai’an H.E. Mr. Hui Jian Lin.

6. During the meeting with Mayor of Huai’an, Consul General proposed an annual plan of cooperation which covered economic, political and cultural exchanges.  Consul General requested Huai’an to encourage companies from Huai’an to take advantage of the Make in India campaign and set up manufacturing units at suitable industrial parks in India.

7. It was also proposed to organize an India Culture Week in Huai’an along with a Business Symposium in the first half of 2017. It may be noted that Kingday Textiles (located in Huai’an, producing blankets and carpets), is one of the earliest investments from an Indian entrepreneur Mr. Jai Kishan Bhagnani into Eastern China region, with annual sales of more than 350 million RMB.

8. Mayor of Huai’an welcomed Indian investments and assured fullest support of their government to the operations of the Kingday Textile Group. He also indicated strong interest in leading a high level business delegation to visit India early next year.

9. Pertinent to point out, that the city of Huai’an has an important historical context, as it plays host to the former residence of Premier Zhou En Lai, as well as to the residence of the author of Journey to the West.
