Visit of Hon'ble Raksha Mantri Shri Manohar Parrikar to Shanghai

 

 

     A delegation led by Hon’ble Raksha Mantri Shri Manohar Parrikar, including Vice Admiral Sunil Lamba, FOC-in –C, Western Naval Command and Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh, DGMO, along with Ambassador Vijay Gokhale visited Shanghai from April 16-17, 2016.

 2.      During the Shanghai leg of the visit, Indian Association (IA) of Shanghai organised a welcome gathering in honour of Raksha Mantri on April 17, 2016 at the Indian Consulate premises, during which about 100 Indian community members from all walks of life participated. The IA- Shanghai members included professionals from IT, banking, finance, pharmaceutical sectors; entrepreneurs; members of academia, as well as medical practitioners.

 3.      During the interaction Hon’ble Raksha Mantri assured members of the Indian community of Government of India’s steadfast commitment at securing their interests and underscored that there was significant momentum in India’s economy, which had been successful in attracting major investments under the Make in India Initiative.  Raksha Mantri’s address was followed by a Q&A session, during which issues ranging from India’s self reliance in defence production, education to high end technologies and retaining skilled talented students were raised by some of the participants.

 4.      Earlier in the forenoon of April 17, Hon’ble Raksha Mantri visited the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center, where a briefing on the urban planning achievements of Shanghai, especially its innovative use of technologies and smart city transportations was provided to the visiting delegation. The delegation left for Beijing later in the afternoon by special aircraft from the Hongqiao International Airport.
