Press Release: 125th Birth Anniversary celebrations of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at Shanghai

            In association with Shanghai School of Foreign Languages and Shanghai Tongji University, CGI Shanghai organized an interactive seminar to commemorate the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at the Consulate Conference Hall on 14th April afternoon.

         The interaction was attended by nearly 80 under-graduate students along with professors and scholars, as well as representatives of local cultural associations. 

          It included a brief presentation (in Chinese) on the life of Baba Saheb along with a video from Rajya Sabha TV which broadcast his speech to the Constituent Assembly during the adoption of the Indian Constitution.

       The commemorative event also included an interactive Question & Answer Session during which several queries on Baba Saheb’s life were answered by the participating panelists.

         It may be mentioned that several of the under-Graduate Chinese students had not heard of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar (prior to the interaction) and it was unanimously felt by all of them after the interaction, that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar had an invaluable role in shaping the development trajectory of India, particularly in the crafting of its Constitution, and its key principles, which have stood the test of time. All in all the event succeeded in educating young Chinese scholars about the life and profile of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, some of whom had come from prestigious universities of Shanghai. These student have committed to sending to the Consulate, over the next one week their own impressions of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar (in Chinese) which will be posted on the Consulate’s website.
