Official Visit of Ambassador Vijay Gokhale to Hangzhou

 

H.E. Shri Vijay K. Gokhale, Ambassador of India to People’s Republic of China paid on official visit to Hangzhou from March 9-11, 2016. During the visit, Ambassador interacted with Vice Governor of Zhejiang Province, H.E. Madam Liang Liming on 10th March and discussed ways and means to further deepen cooperation between India and Zhejiang Province.

Vice Governor Liang Li Ming provided Ambassador a detailed update on the economic situation of Zhejiang and their strong desire by companies from Zhejiang to invest abroad, including in India. Ambassador appreciated the Zhejiang model of growth which had encouraged private enterprises and thanked Zhejiang leadership for providing a conducive business environment to Indian companies and nationals who were based out of Zhejiang. Ambassador also looked forward to receiving full support of Zhejiang Government in a successful hosting of the G20 Summit in Hangzhou.

Earlier in the day, Ambassador visited Alibaba premises and interacted with their senior business representatives and discussed further steps to follow up on the implementation of the commitments made last year during Mr. Jack Ma’s interaction with visiting Indian Prime Minister.

Subsequently, Ambassador also visited one of China’s leading Aluminum foil producers, Dingshen Group, which is looking at setting up a unit in India with an initial investment of 300 million dollars, spread over five years. Ambassador assured them of Government of India’s fullest support in facilitating their upcoming investment project in India.

Ambassador also visited the Linyin Temple and called on Chief Abbot Guang Quan and discussed ways and means at further strengthening Buddhism related exchanges between India and the Hangzhou Buddhist Academy. Ambassador also paid a visit to the Yoga Summit and interacted with its Founder CEO Gloria Hao, who has been successfully organizing International Day of Yoga related events in recent past in China. Ambassador also interacted with Professor Wang Zhicheng of Zhejiang University, who presented Ambassador with ten publications of his recently translated Chinese versions of Upanishads/Yoga Sutras. Separately, Ambassador was also welcomed by the President of the Zhejiang Kaiming Art Gallery, which had earlier sent a delegation of painters to visit India.
