Consulate General of India, Shanghai; Zhejiang Dept. of Commerce and Zhejiang International Investment Promotion Center jointly organized ‘‘India Investment Seminar’’ on December 15, 2011 at Hangzhou. The primary objective of the Seminar was to address Chinese companies interested in investing in India and to give an overview of FDI policy, basic tax and business laws, financing options etc. in India. This was the third event in the series of India investment Seminars organized by the Consulate in East China region in 2011. The earlier two were Shanghai in January 2011 & in Yangzhou, Jiangsu in July 2011.
Consul General Mrs. Riva Ganguly Das led a delegation of Indian companies & banks from the Eastern China Region to Hangzhou. Chief Representatives, CEOs & senior executives of Adani Group Ltd., Air India, Axis Bank, CRISIL Global Research & Analytics, ICICI Bank Ltd., GMR Energy Ltd., Jiangsu Kingday Textile Co. Ltd., NIIT, Punjab National Bank, State Bank of India, Tata Consultancy Services, Thermax and Union Bank of India were part of the delegation.
Mr. Han Jie, Deputy Director General of Zhejiang Department of Commerce said that the joint initiative offered a unique opportunity to Zhejiang based companies to engage with Indian companies. He gave an overview of the Overseas Investment Policy of Zhejiang. He said the policy encourages Chinese companies from “Going Global” by way of favourable policy, speedy approval and financial assistance.

Speaking at the event, Consul General said that with a combination of factors such as macro-economic stability, consistent growth, abundant skilled manpower, well-developed banking and judicial system, a vibrant capital market and its large scale investment absorption capacity, India offers attractive returns to prospective Chinese investors.With about a trillion dollars of investments expected in the Indian infrastructure sector in the next five–six years, there are a number of business opportunities for Chinese companies to invest in India, in infrastructure projects, dedicated freight corridors, subway lines and SEZs which are being created through Public Private Partnerships, said Mrs. Das.

Senior consultants from Deloitte, Invest India and State Bank of India made presentations on FDI policy of India and other related business laws and financial opportunities for investing in India. Senior representative of Adani Group Ltd. made presentation on ‘SEZs in India with special reference to Mundra SEZ in Gujarat’. Senior leaders of Zhejiang Longsheng Group Co. Ltd. & Zhejiang Yankon Group Co. Ltd. who have already invested in India, shared their success story.
The Seminar provided Indian and Zhejiang based Chinese companies with a platform to forge new business alliances as well as promote two-way investments. Altogether 130 participants with representatives of more than 90 Zhejiang based companies, government officials and media representatives participated in the Seminar. One-on-one meetings between Indian and Chinese companies were arranged.
