India- China Academic & Business Seminar held at the Consulate

 

In continuation of our efforts to engage Indian & Chinese academic & business community in Shanghai to discuss issues of mutual interest such as changing face of India-China business relations, as well as cultural & academic ties between the two countries; Consulate organized a dialogue between Indian & Chinese businesspersons along with Academy of World Watch (AWW) supported by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The event was held on 12 April 2012 at the Consulate premises.

Around 40 top ranking executives of 25 SMEs mainly from Zhejiang & Shanghai & some from Jiangsu participated. From Indian side 16 CEOs/ Chief Representatives from Autolite(India)Ltd., BEML, BHEL, Canara Bank, ICICI Bank, Jiangsu Sterlite Tongguang Fiber Co. Ltd., Lupin Ltd., Micromactic Machine Tools(Shanghai) Co. Ltd, Punjab National Bank, Raymond Ltd., State Bank of India participated. Among academics, besides Mr. Sun Yang, Executive President of AWW; Prof. Guo Ming, Director, Regional Security and Cooperation Centre, AWW and Ms. Indira Ravindran, Professor, Tongji University participated.

After the welcome remarks by Consul General & opening remarks by President, AWW; Mr. E B Rajesh, Chief Representative, CII gave a presentation on ‘Current Investment Scenario in India & what India can offer to Chinese companies & SMEs’. Mr. Dinesh Sharma, CEO, State Bank of India gave a presentation on ‘Financing options for Chinese companies to invest in India’. Prof. Guo Ming of AWW spoke on ‘an overview of the economic and trade communication between China and India.’ Mr. Wang Xing, In-Charge, Outlook Zhejiang Enterprises magazine spoke on ‘Brief Introduction of SMEs from Zhejiang’. The discussions mainly focused on the opportunities that India offers to Chinese businesses and likewise opportunities for Indian companies especially in manufacturing in engineering, pharma and auto-component sectors in China.

The presentation & speeches were followed by a lively discussion and informal business-to–business interaction between Chinese & India businesspersons.
