Pt. Keshav Talegaonkar at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music

 

Musicologist & ICCR’s artiste-in-residence at the Culture Wing, Embassy of India, Beijing Pandit Keshav Talegaonker along with his wife Pratibha Keshav conducted lecture-cum-workshop sessions “The Colorful Indian Music” at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music on June 20-21, 2012. Vice Presidents Zhang Xian Ping & Yang Yan Di along with other professors of the Conservatory attended the inauguration. The event, organized by Sino-Japanese Music Culture Study Center of the Conservatory, received a huge response. Not only students from the Conservatory but also students from East China Normal University and Shanghai University attended the two demonstrations. In his lectures, Pt. Talegaonker spoke about the history of Indian music, traditional India music, improvisation in traditional & modern Indian Music and finer aspects of ‘Raga’ & ‘Tala’. As a part of his lecdem on improvisation, Pt Talegaonker jointly performed with Prof. Huo Yong Gang, famous Er`hu performer, and demonstrated that Indian Tabla went very well with the Chinese Er`hu as well.  These performances were greatly enjoyed by the audience which went on to prove that language is no barrier & that music knows no boundaries.
