Consular Advisory on fraudulent telephone calls

CONSULATE GENERAL OF INDIA

SHANGHAI

Some incidents have come to the notice of the Ministry of External Affairs in India where fraudsters are duping Indian Nationals residing abroad by impersonating as officers of the Indian Missions/Posts.

The caller invariably tries to elicit personal information from the Indian National by providing certain personal details and attempts to cheat the Indian Nationals by claiming that mistakes have been noticed in their passports/visa application etc. At this point the caller insists that they should deposit money in a certain bank account to have these mistakes rectified or else they would face deportation, imprisonment etc.

As such, it is reiterated that Consulate does not make any such calls or seek such information on telephone.

If such calls are received, he/she is requested to immediately inform the Consulate by email- ccons.shanghai@mea.gov.in

Your safety and well-being are of paramount importance to us.
